Understanding HTTPS, SSL, and why they are necessary for every website

For most of us, the only difference between HTTP and HTTPS is that one has an S added at the end. Until relatively recently, people didn’t really get the concept of security while browsing the internet – most browsers simply showed a small exclamation mark if a website wasn’t secured, something which the general population ignored.
